There are two 30 minute back to back workshops. The children perform experiments, and participate in demonstrations and get a take home item at the end of the program. Radical Robots-Radical robots reinforces the concept that science and technology go hand in hand. Children discover how robots work in our place and are introduced to several real-life examples such as canadarm.Space Frontier- Take a trip through the solar system and sign up for the Mad Science Astronaut in Training program where they will learn about space. Lights On - Interactive and hands-on activities will assist preschoolers with this introduction to light. Children will learn all bout light and how it helps us see.

Have you’ve ever consider the idea of taking up running but just didn’t know where to begin? Then Bloomfield Leisure Services may have just the solution to help get you started. Couch to 5K is designed for anyone who is feeling out of shape or unfit and who want to take up physical activity but hasn’t a clue on how to go about it. Whether you’ve never run before or if you just want to get more active, Couch to 5K is designed especially for absolute beginners and is a great way to work towards improving your fitness and stamina, with sessions using a mix of running and walking, gradually building up to a steady jog. Couch to 5K offers a social andsupportive environment where everyone is in it together, led by an RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) certified running coach. Important Information Group training plan, No running, experience necessary, Running shoes, dress to run outside, bring a water bottle, Group accountability and Encouragement. Training forthe East Windsor Veterans 5K on November 9th.

The Wintonbury Land Trust is partnering with the Town of Bloomfield for a fascinating presentation on bears on September 18 at 6 pm at 330 Park Road, Bloomfield. Paul Colburn, a Connecticut Master Wildlife Conservationist and avid outdoorsman, will focus on the natural history of black bears in Connecticut, an overview of black bear habitat, diet, behavior, reproduction and current research efforts. He will also provide practical recommendations for optimum coexistence with our black bear population. Black bear artifacts will be shared to help dispel myths and common misunderstandings.   Please register at the Leisure Services Department www.bloomfieldrec.com or 860-243-2923, as light refreshments will be served. Rides are available for seniors who need transportation; contact Senior Services at 860-243-8361.
